This long weekend has been one full of sickness and sadness. It’s amazing how hard change is on the phyche. Last night I spent some quality time watching old MLK speeches online and I was moved, once again, as I always have been. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was an absolutely incredible human being and I think we could all learn a lot from his words, still today.
Today, I celebrate Dr. King and remember the messages that he passionately delivered: full of wisdom, compassion, truth, and love. Happy Birthday Dr. King!!!
“There are some things so dear, some things so precious, some things so eternally true, that they are worth dying for. And I submit to you that if a man has not discovered something that he will die for, he isn’t fit to live.”
Did you know that it took 32 years, “a lot of campaigning”, and celebrity guest appearances to make Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday a holiday? Also, it wasn’t until year 2000 that all 50 states recognized Dr. King’s birthday as a government holiday. WTF.
I will continue spreading love with the YAB stickers….Here are some recent ones…
{When I saw hate, I chose to spread love}
“And I say to you, I have also decided to stick with love, for I know that love is ultimately the only answer to mankind’s problems. And I’m going to talk about it everywhere I go. I know it isn’t popular to talk about it in some circles today. And I’m not talking about emotional bosh when I talk about love; I’m talking about a strong, demanding love. And I have seen too much hate…”
Excerpt from his August 16, 1967 “Where Do We Go From Here” speech. -Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Now this, this is LOVE.
